Abu Dhabi is home to several beautiful golf courses which boast stunning backdrops of the Arabian Gulf or desert terrain, with two giving the true feel and challenge of a traditional links course.
Abu Dhabi is known for attracting the world's top professional golfers throughout the year, especially for the HSBC Championship, held annually in January.
There are many courses scattered across the capital all offering different golfing experiences. Here's a brief description of three of the top courses.
Yas Links Golf Club
Yas Links is one of the region’s leading golf clubs, with panoramic views reaching towards the city and the beautiful Arabian Gulf as an impressive backdrop.
Just 30 minutes by taxi from the heart of the city, Yas Links has been ranked the number 1 golf course in the Middle East by Golf Digest and 46th overall in the world.
Home to the annual Abu Dhabi Invitational tournament in January, the course attracts world-class golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson.
The par 72 course measures just over 7,400 yards from the championship tees, and was designed by the legendary golf course architect Kyle Phillips.
Behind the renowned designer's concept for Yas Links, was to create an authentic golf course which emulates a seaside Scottish links course, complete with wispy fescue grass, undulating fairways and sandy dunes, within Abu Dhabi's hot desert climate.
As well as being a superb setting to enjoy a round of golf, the stunning location also makes it a perfect place to relax, dine and admire the passing boats from the Club’s private jetty.
If your holiday companions aren’t into golf, maybe they’d prefer relaxing by the pool in the beautiful sunshine, with passes costing just AED50. Yas Links offers full changing facilities and amenities. The Club also boasts a state-of-the-art golf academy, complete with a floodlit 9 hole par-3 course.
If you fancy a bite to eat, licensed restaurant Hickory's serves a range of international dishes, and is popular at all times of day.
With a choice of 9 or 18 holes, golfing rates at Yas Links during winter months start at AED500 for weekday play, and AED725 at the weekend (Fri – Sat).
