Abu Dhabi is a family-friendly city. Not only has the emirate recently been voted as one of the safest cities in the world, but also the exciting theme parks and range of entertainment options make for an action packed trip for children and adults alike.
Day 1 – Start the morning on Yas Island and head to Ferrari World to enjoy the fastest rollercoaster on the planet. After a few hours at Ferrari World, head just across the road to Yas Waterworld and cool down with a fun range of slides, rides, and attractions.
If you still have a need for speed after all of that, hop onto the Yas Express, a free Yas Island shuttle bus service, and try karting at the KartZone at Yas Marina Circuit.
Day 2 – Abu Dhabi Mall has some fantastic family-friendly dining options. Start your day with a leisurely breakfast at one of the mall's restaurant outlets, then set sail on a Jalboot cruise. The best way to see Abu Dhabi is definitely from the water, and with a Jalboot cruise (see Sightseeing Tours on page 44) you will be able to explore the city’s major attractions and enjoy a number of stop-offs en route. For something a bit more adrenaline-filled, you could
head out to the desert and enjoy a 4x4 desert dune bashing trip with one of the many guided tours.
Day 3 – Head out early to Dubai Parks & Resorts, a 1-hour drive from downtown Abu Dhabi. Visit LEGOLAND® Dubai, LEGOLAND® Water Park, Motion Gate (a Hollywood inspired theme park), or Bollywood (dedicated to all things Bollywood). On your return to Abu Dhabi stop at Yas Marina for a sunset beverage or dinner al fresco in a waterfront setting. Alternatively, if you are interested in a day of culture visit the new Louvre Abu Dhabi which includes a children's museum, conceived for children aged between 6 and 12 years. In the afternoon, visit the magical Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
Day 4 – Time to relax! Why not unwind with a day at Yas Links Golf Club? Even though the golf course has just been voted as the best golf course in the Middle East, the club is also the perfect place for families. In the afternoon, enjoy a day of beach fun and relaxation just down the road at Yas Beach. Alternatively, Saadiyat Beach offers a stunning beach and is only a 15-minute drive from downtown Abu Dhabi.
Day 5 – In the morning, paddle a kayak on a guided tour with Noukhada, starting from near the Eastern Mangroves Marina and explore the beautiful mangroves (see Sightseeing Tours on page 44). In the afternoon, head to downtown Abu Dhabi to Qasr Al-Hosn fort, Abu Dhabi’s symbolic birthplace, or Heritage Village.
For those on an extended stay:
Day 6 & 7 – If you have time, you will definitely want to make a trip to Al Ain, which is about an hour's drive to the east of Abu Dhabi. Children will love the old forts, Al Ain Zoo, and Wadi Adventure, a man-made park with white-water rafting and kayaking. There is much to see and do in Al Ain - see the Cultural Fans itineraries on the opposite page, and Al Ain on page 28 for more information.
